Some years ago, I was on an Etsy Christmas shopping binge, when I came across an awesome little jewelry shop called FIGistanbul.  I immediately fell in love with a pair of earrings (above on the right), especially because they happened to match the ring I bought while in Istanbul a few years prior - carnelian stone surrounded by smaller turquoise stones.  It was a match made in heaven, and to this day I always wear them together.  Oh who am I kidding?  I fell in love with a bunch of earrings in this shop, and not too long after I purchased this first pair, I was back for more.
FIGistanbul is based out of Istanbul, Turkey and has lots of gorgeous handmade Ottoman reproductions and unique pieces inspired by all things Turkish and beyond.  Having been to Istanbul, I can say that this store definitely reminds me of the jewelry from the Grand Bazaar! Sigh, I miss that bohemian paradise, it's an endless breathtaking maze of ancient archways filled to the brim with incredible brass lanterns and hookahs, painted tile, and of course - amazing jewelry as far as the eye can see.

This shop has a sexy mix of rustic tribal metalwork, turquoise, and glamorous jewels.
With that said, you must know something about me: although I am a bargain hunter for nearly all things decorative and most of my fashion (which I cleverly scavenge from Marshalls, TJMaxx and Homegoods), I do not skimp on the jewels. Oh no sireee folks, jewelry is not something you want to spend money on unless it's the real deal. Don't get me wrong, there are always those casual pretty pieces made from organic materials or the occasional fake-plated metal and that's okay.  However, the majority of ones jewelry collection should be good quality pieces that stand the test of time. Only real silver and gold will stand the test of time, not to mention won't stain your skin (green stains around your fingers anyone?). I'm not a fan of plastic beads, I love semi-precious stones (and precious too of course, ha). Turquoise, agate, citrine, amethyst, smoky topaz, African Ruby (and regular rubies too), garnet and moonstone are just a few of my favorite!

All this is to say that when I buy jewelry, I look for quality and design.  I like unique, creative, and eclectic pieces. FYI - I find a lot of wonderful things at the TJMaxx jewelry counter, goodies designed and hand-made in Israel, India, Europe, Mexico and beyond. I've also collected rings and earrings (my two favorite types of jewelry) from Greek festivals, eBay, and particularly during my world travels. Quite a few of my earrings and rings come from Poland and Turkey. In Poland I got a lot of Amber (that's where Amber hails from) and silver at an art fair, and in Turkey I ravished the Grand Bazaaar and left Istanbul like a bejeweled gypsy, albeit penniless!  You can see some of my treasures in these two posts: A Bohemian Traveler's Jewels Part I and Part IIWith that said, I find the quality of FIGistanbul jewelry up to par - real silver and real stones.

When it comes to jewelry, I believe you should treat yourself. And if you choose wisely, those special pieces will become members of your essential wardrobe. Mmmmhmm, I love that type of jewelry - the kind that makes you smile every time you look at it, the kind that you want to wear every day regardless of whether or not it technically matches your outfit. FIGistanbul has just that.... check out my favorites below from their abundant selection. In case you're wondering, this is not a sponsored post, I just thought you'd like to know about this little gem.  Enjoy!
