Hello New Year

Hi there, and a belated Happy New Year to all of you! I hope all of your holidays were wonderful... I can hardly believe that it's 2012...then again, I probably say that every year! Time sure does fly by, it's almost scary. There are many things I'd like to accomplish this year, and the major prerequisite is that I get myself organized! It's true, I tend to be a bit disorganized and scatter-brained, which teams up with my million ideas a minute and endless passions causing the occasional short-circuit of my motivation and too many unfinished ideas, blogs and projects. Does anyone else out there have this problem? Please, let's have a chat, e-mail me or comment on this post, I'd love to hear from you...

I'm not totally devoid of organization, however I don't keep a regular agenda - which I should! I have some notebooks and sketchbooks that I always doodle and brainstorm in, but I want the structured planner as well. To start, I bought myself a medium sized 2012 planner, it's a beautiful turquoise and has a Moroccan style lattice design on the pages. Don't get me wrong, I've bought plenty of planners in the past, but I never use them! I knowwwww... horrible. Again, I can't possibly be the only maniac with this issue... right? :) As much as I've wanted to, I've never been one to fill those babies up with millions of scribbles, plans, ideas and post-it notes or tabs... but I desperately want to! HAHA! I have to laugh, it sounds silly. But silliness aside, I mean business!

Perhaps I'm feeling thrown off this year, since I'm not living in my own apartment and I don't have my own space. Not having a large canvas to live and spread out in can be frustrating. I want a big office/craft room where I can have everything accessible (not in storage bins that are scattered in my mother's garage and a storage unit). Suffice it to say I've felt creatively stifled lately, I've also been down on myself for not blogging as much. Last semester just sucked the motivation from me. And guess what? Spring classes start today! I am registered, but my classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I begin tomorrow. I have a week to drop/add new classes without penalty, and I learned fast that a combination of researching professors beforehand and doing some class shopping during the first week is the best way to get good courses taught by good professors. I go, and if I like the professor and the syllabus then I keep the class, but if not I drop it. I won't even register for a class taught by a professor that has consistently poor evaluations (who would?) and sometimes I discriminate against overly complicated syllabi or professors who take attendance (umm hello, this isn't elementary school). That's just me. The handful of classes that make me cringe on my transcript are from the beginning of my college days, the days of impulsive and inexperienced class picking. I hate regretting a class because of a terrible professor. Anyway, I'll let you in on my final courses after this week is over. Is anyone else out there starting (or maybe already started) Spring semester? Good luck!

So back to the organization, I need to run my life like a well oiled machine from here on out, time is a tickin'!  How will I start?  Well, by making the good-ol "To Do" list of course, except mine is a MONSTER to-do list and I might need a few pages and a personal assistant to get it all done.  Hehehehe... Help!  Do any of my awesome readers have some advice for me?

Enjoy your day and the organization inspiration below...

Catherine

  1. Happy New Year Catherine! Don't get so down on yourself, we are all somewhat unorgarnized in some aspect of our lives. Just by looking at the beautiful and very organized pics you've posted, if you compare yourself with the Mighty Ms. Stawart, then of course you will feel like a flop - LOL! She does offer some great ideas though. Hope all goes well for you this (hopefully last)semester. Wishing you all the best in 2012!
    Love,

  2. Catherine, I just started reading your blog. Great stuff! You have a fire of enthusiasm, and a wonderful ability to turn things around and view a topic from all angles. I sense a lightness and quickness about you. This new year I wish for you earthy steadiness. You need boundaries and rules for yourself! Set a bedtime and stick to it. You need a routine this is an earthy quality that will really help you thorough life.

You are fine without your stuff for now. You are liberated without it. You wish to have it to feel grounded but all you really need is your routine. Come up with one and nourish yourself with it for the whole week then tweak it week by week. Google "dinacharya" that should get you started.

Oh, finding great professors is important especially for such a vibrant and creative person like you, so you should definitely set that as your intention. Make sure that is intention is in balance with other intentions like matriculating with some efficiency. Just remember that your own studentship is part of the equation. Ask yourself what your own studentship was like with those teachers you did not like. Earthy steadiness, and a sense of spaciousness and watery allowing of a teacher's ways will help you maintain the same level of studentship for all your classes irrespective of the teacher.

Again, your blog rocks! I admire anyone who can stick with one. It's very hard to do!
    Blessings,
    S
