| About Me |

Hey there!  Thank you for stopping by Inspire Bohemia and welcome… My name is Catherine and I live in Miami, Florida, where I was born and raised. I've worked for design firms, a cruise line, a fabric factory, and law firms... Now, I've just graduated with two Bachelor's degrees - one in Sociology and the other in Gender Studies - and I'm planning my Master's degree while I travel, blog, and work on creative side projects.  Despite my aspiration for pursuing higher education and my intense passion for social issues, I also have entrepreneurial dreams aplenty, so there's lots of plotting going on in that arena as well.

My philosophy is this: life is like a book of many chapters, each chapter is a chance to discover a different part of yourself and pursue all of your dreams.  Not just one dream, but all of them - in some way, shape, or form - over time.  To me, that's life.

We're all much more than the labels that society imposes upon us - so at my core I'm an artist, dreamer, lover, creative mind, thinker, writer, low-key rebel, traveler, gardener/lover of nature and so much more! I love travel, food, interior design, decorating, photography, art, crafts, classic rock, jewelry (especially Turkish), anything bohemian/hippy, antique and vintage things, collecting, going to thrift shops, garage sales, markets, Bazaars, and anywhere I can score a unique bargain.  Overall, I'm just a free bird, looking to do, learn, create, share, love, travel, and eat my way through life while listening to Hendrix, The Beatles, Zeppelin, The Stones, Janis, Creedence, The Doors and all the rest…

I always strive to pave my own way in this life and be my own person.  I'm passionate about doing what I love and living a full and happy life without succumbing to the draining 9-5+ desk job where all of your creativity and decisions are at the mercy of another person.  No thanks, I want to be my own boss and I want to work from anywhere in the world.  I love to travel and I want to see as much of this crazy planet as possible before I kick the bucket - so far I've visited thirteen countries.  I strongly believe that knowledge is power and travel is knowledge, so we should never cease observing the beauty and diversity on this earth.

Humans have the power to create and inspire endlessly through all aspects of life. I have created this blog as a canvas for my passions and to inspire others to explore their own creativity and live a unique life!

Please see the About Inspire Bohemia page for more of my thoughts on the purpose of this blog. I hope you enjoy Inspire Bohemia and find inspiration, please don't hesitate to share your thoughts!

- John Lennon

"Our lives begin to end when we become silent about things that matter."
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary... stay hungry. stay foolish."
~ Steve Jobs

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
- Siddarthan Guatama aka Buddha (pbuh)

"It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting."
- Unknown

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. "
- Mark Twain

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
- Gandhi

"Lead, follow or get out of the way."
- Thomas Paine

"Dare to dream, Because only by dreaming, will you ever discover who you are, what you want, and what you can do."
- Julie-Ann Ford

"Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”
- Miriam Beard

"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing."
- Helen Keller

"We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose the time of our birth, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time and conditions of our death. But within this realm of choicelessness…. we do choose how we live."
- Unknown

"This above all - to thine own self be true..."
- Shakespeare

“Hating people is like burning down your house to kill a rat.”
- Henry Emerson Fosdick

"First you fuel the desire, then the desire will fuel you."
- Napoleon Hill

"It’s not your birth date or the date of your death that matters on your tombstone… its what you managed to fit into the “dash” between!"
- Unknown

"Passion is the best make-up for a woman… but, cosmetics are easier to buy"

- Yves St.Laurent

"Those who danced were thought to be quite insane…by those who could not hear the music."
- Angela Monet

“You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don’t try.”
- Beverly Sills

"The only things that stand between a person and what they want in life are the will to try it and the faith to believe it's possible."
- Richard M. DeVos

"If I had a single flower for every time I think about you, I could walk forever in my garden."
- Attributed to Claudia Ghandi

“I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.”
- Bill Cosby

"Being an artist means ceasing to take seriously that very serious person we are when we are not an artist. "
- José Ortega y Gasset

"...the fight for women's rights is not a war between the sexes, but a struggle to create a true partnership with men.  I'm convinced that the more rights we gain as women, the freer men will be.  Equality between the sexes is the key to a better world for all of us."

- Benedita da Silva  (Brazilian politician)

"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."
- St. Augustine
(from the movie Captain Corelli's Mandolin)

"The Empathic Civilization is emerging. A younger generation is fast extending its empathic embrace beyond religious affiliations and national identification to include the whole of humanity and the vast project of life that envelops the Earth."
- Jeremy Rifkin

"A religion true to its nature must also be concerned about man's social conditions. Any religion that professes to be concerned with the souls of men and is not concerned with the slums that damn them, the economic conditions that strangle them, and the social conditions that cripple them is a dry-as-dust religion."
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness."
- Dalai Lama

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Albert Einstein] Quotes I love:

"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."

"The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge."

"The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing."

"Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding."

"My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind."
"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."

"Imagination is more important than knowledge."
