Chalkboard Paint

Hi there!

These days you'd be hard pressed to find a chalkboard in a college class, at least one that's actually being used!  As for primary schools, I don't know.  It seems chalkboards were first replaced by dry erase boards and then computer projectors with Power Point presentations and Word Documents full of lecture notes!  I sure don't miss the chalkboard when it comes to the classroom setting, but there's still something nostalgic about it, enough to want to incorporate it into my life somehow...  And now I know how, well not specifically, but I have many ideas thanks to the endless images I've sourced out on Pinterest!  There are oodles of creative ways to incorporate chalkboard paint into a space, in fact there's even an easy recipe to make your own chalkboard paint (more on that below), so scroll on and let chalboard paint win over your heart! :)

Have you used chalkboard paint before?  If so please feel free to let us know in the comments how it worked out for you and if there are any trial and error, tips, tricks or ideas you can share.

Thanks to brains over at Martha Stewart empire you can now make your very own chalkboard paint in any color of the rainbow by mixing any shade with tile grout...yeah!  Check out the step by step formula for making your own chalkboard paint here.  Thanks again Martha, I must try this!

  1. What an inspiring collection! I wonder if the chalk dust is a problem? I've been thinking about doing a framed portion of my hallway, but am worried there will be a collection of chalk dust on the floor and tracked through my house. Am I just being too type A?!

  2. I forget what design show I was watching but they put chalkboard paint on the outside of the cabinets. Then drew long white trees. It looks beautiful and not what you would expect to see in a kitchen!
