I've got garden planters on the brain today, mainly because I've neglected to plant any of the empty ones I have sitting at home in the last two weekends! Grrrr, shame on me! So, I've distracted myself from the guilt by putting together this post with lots of funky, eclectic, creative garden planters to inspire you (and me too for that matter)! Hehe!
Oh, and a quick note on the image above - isn't that awesome!? It's certainly not practical or easy to replicate but it's great to look at and can spur a lot of creative ideas about re-purposing objects into garden planters! There are lots of unique ways to display plants in this post and I'm sure you'll be inspired to think outside the box the next time you plan a gardening project!

Painted car tires! Wow, what a great way to reuse non-biodegradable waste by incorporating it into your garden as a planter... the paint does wonders!

I've wanted to make one of these adorable little mini garden planters for a long time! As you can see it entails the use of rocks, one (or more) miniature garden elements such and, most importantly, plants to create the look of a miniature garden that will thrive over time and be a great point of interest in any indoor or outdoor setting! Of course, in my version there will be many succulents and perhaps a cactus or two....... :)
A mini garden cottage, how sweeeeeet!
Isn't this cool? A moss covered planter... check out The Weekend Gardener for step-by-step instructions on how to make your own and many other interesting do-it-yourself garden projects!

I saw this cute idea a while back and I've wanted to make my own colander planter ever since! My mom has a small copper colander in her backyard that's home to Echeveria succulents and it is doing very well! Try it... experiment with colanders from Goodwill or Salvation Army and get creative with a bold coat of spray paint... I like turquoise, red or yellow!
I wish this incredible courtyard in Cordoba, Spain full of fuchsia bougainvillea and wall mounted cobalt blue garden pots was mine! How dreamy, I would never leave!......

ReplyDeleteTerrific ideas! I love the teapots, chairs, tires and mini gardens. I also love the idea of turning the bird bath into a planter, especially since the mosquitoes are rampant this summer. Thanks for all the beautiful ideas Cat, I will think twice before throwing something out that can be used in the garden.

beautiful inspirations! love them, i found also plant on the gummy boots and chair in garden exhibition last spring here in Austria
ReplyDeleteThese pics are beautiful and definitely inspiring!
ReplyDeletewell done !
I love the boots. My 2 year old granddaughter has a pair of pink boots we keep here at the farm for her. As soon as she arrives she immediately puts on her boots to go feed the chickens. No matter how nicely she is dressed she goes for those boots. A planter after she outgrows them would keep that memory alive for a long, long time.
ReplyDeleteThese are really nice ideas for your yard! I've purchased nice canopy covers recently for mine.

I have recently made the tire pyramid, as a Wonderful Strawberry Pyramid. It was not only easy and fun, but also repurposed some old tires that were laying around. How exciting to have this fun garden addition. Thanks for the great ideal.
ReplyDeletewhat type of paint do you use on the tires
ReplyDeleteThese aren't my tires. I would use spray paint primer andspray paint color of your choice, for outdoors of course - I recommend Rustoleum.
ReplyDeletethis type of patio or yard gardening make me wish I were younger and physically able to make them.
ReplyDeleteLove all of this and have done quite a few. I also bought an old toolbbelt, filled it with a few petunias and greenery and hung it over my privacy fence post. Put an old tractor chain in front of it. Below that is an old pair of my husbands 20 yr old work boots filled up with diff flowets and greenery. Beside his boots are are little pr both my grand kids wore. Filled with tiny flowers. Next to my grandsons old medal tonka truck filled with hens and chicks also a piece of Y shaped pcp pipe filled with plants. I love making all the odd planters. Everyone teases me about being able to make a planter out of anything. Dont know how to post them to pinterest yet. Love your sight.
ReplyDeleteThought I was excellent in garden flowering, but these photos have given me a challenge. They are truly awesome and magnificent!
ReplyDeleteI love them all.
